Rockies Pick Cole Carrigg – MLB Trade Rumors

The Rockies announced that they have selected the contract of an infielder/outfielder Cole Carrigg and remember the right hand Jeff Criswell. In parallel moves, they put a central/outside player Tyler Freeman on the seven-day list of concussion injuries and not nominated Keegan Thompson by share.
Carrigg, now 24, was selected with the 65th overall pick in the 2023 draft. He is obviously a talented player, who can do all kinds of things. He is a switch hitter with speed. At San Diego State, he played every position on the diamond except first base and right field.
After the Rockies drafted him, they initially had him split his time between catcher, shortstop and the outfield. He hasn’t been behind the plate since 2023, though. In 2025, he played only the outfield. Here in 2026, he has been splitting his time between shortstop and center field.
Offensively, Carrigg has a .283/.359/.474 line during his minor league career. He was at the Triple-A level here in 2026, with 257 plate appearances on the year. His 15.2% strikeout rate is very low and his 10.5% walk rate is above average. He has six home runs, a .338 /.414/.529 line and a 129 wRC+, though a .387 batting average on balls in play helps a lot. He has 30 goals in 37 attempts.
Baseball America currently ranks Carrigg as the #4 prospect in the Rockies system. MLB Pipeline has him at #6 and ESPN recently listed him at #7. Reports about him often focus on his flesh, noting that he can be both an asset and a liability to him. He had a lot of fun in Double-A last year and hit at a 27% clip, though he seems to have caught up to that this year. But doing nothing is wrong because his speed and explosiveness are a big part of his appeal.
More to come.
