MSI’s next gaming monitor can switch between three different resolutions and refresh rates

Gaming monitors have slowly become one of the most competitive categories in PC hardware. In the past few years, brands have rushed to push higher refresh rates, improve OLED technology, reduce response times, and deliver brighter displays. But despite all those improvements, consumers still have to choose one side of the experience. You can buy a very fast esports monitor with a low resolution or a high-definition OLED display that is more focused on cinematic gaming.

At Computex 2026, MSI seems to be trying to eliminate that compromise. The company has officially launched the MSI MPG OLED 322URDX36, which it describes as the world’s first tri-mode QD-OLED gaming monitor.

Instead of locking users into a single refresh rate and resolution combination, the monitor is designed to dynamically switch between different display modes depending on the type of game being played. It’s a concept that reflects how modern gamers are constantly moving between in-demand AAA titles, competitive esports games, and demanding production work in the same setup.

One monitor is designed for different types of games

The highlight of the new 31.5-inch monitor is its ability to switch between multiple resolutions and refresh rate combinations depending on the user’s needs. Instead of forcing consumers to commit to a single setup forever, MSI allows the display to adapt.

The monitor can work in three different ways. Users can use it in 4K resolution with a 240Hz refresh rate for sharp AAA games, switch to 1440p at 360Hz to find a balance between image quality and speed, or go to Full HD with a very fast 500Hz refresh rate for competitive esports games.

This effectively turns the display into three separate monitors in one package. Traditionally, gamers who wanted both high visual quality and ultra-fast competitive performance often needed separate displays to achieve that balance.

The MPG OLED 322URDX36 uses Samsung Display’s latest QD-OLED technology, which combines OLED-level contrast and response times with strong brightness and color performance. MSI says the panel supports VESA DisplayHDR True Black 500 certification and delivers a response time of 0.03ms aimed at reducing motion blur during fast-paced gaming.

The company also relies on AI-driven gaming tools. The monitor features AI-assisted scene enhancement and adaptive crosshair systems designed to improve visibility depending on the game environment.

On the connectivity side, MSI has equipped the display with DisplayPort 2.1a, HDMI 2.1, and USB-C with power delivery support, making it perfect for gaming PCs, consoles, and productivity-oriented setups.

Why is this important?

The gaming monitor market has become increasingly fragmented in recent years. Some consumers prioritize the highest refresh rates for esports titles, while others care more about the resolution and cinematic image quality of single-player games.

MSI’s triple mode concept tries to eliminate that trade-off. For users with powerful GPUs from NVIDIA or AMD, switching seamlessly between different gaming modes can be a real benefit rather than just a marketing ploy.

The announcement also shows how aggressive monitor manufacturers are now experimenting with evolving technology instead of relying solely on incremental data improvements.

What happens next

MSI has yet to reveal pricing or availability for the MPG OLED 322URDX36. However, given the combination of QD-OLED technology, 500Hz support, and advanced connectivity features, the monitor is unlikely to target mainstream budgets.

Nevertheless, the trend of large industries is becoming more and more clear. Gaming monitors are evolving into flexible performance devices that can adapt to different gaming environments rather than serving a single, fixed purpose.
