The culture shock of a team from the Middle East ending up in Kansas City or a South Korean team passing through Philly is something that many have been looking forward to since the news that the United States will host the World Cup in 2022 became a reality.
Soccer fans on social media got their wish on Saturday, as the Spanish national team made their way through the historic Smoky Mountains, Chattanooga, Tennessee, and it’s safe to say there was some confusion about the matchup of the team and the venue.

Even the mere thought of a million-strong soccer team from the metropolitan areas of Spain showing up in East Tennessee is exciting enough, but seeing their buses escorted through the streets of downtown Chattanooga over the weekend while 85% of the people in the area couldn’t pick some of their best players on the roster is a sight to behold.
The internet seems to think so, as fans at X had a full field day with videos from the Volunteer State this weekend.

Here they come – take a breath – Embassy Suites in Chattanooga, as famous European soccer fans clutch their pearls that FIFA would dare defeat a World Cup-winning country in such a night-and-a-fly venue.

We also got a video of dedicated fans chanting the name of young celebrity Lamine Yamal when he got off the team bus.
Hmm, maybe I was wrong about football fans in Tennessee. They seem to really know their stuff.
It’s a strange thought about a bunch of Tennessee natives cheering on an 18-year-old kid from Barcelona, but the game has come 32 years since the United States last hosted a World Cup.

In all fairness, it’s nice to see these teams flocking to America and this year’s World Cup should be fun to watch.
