“Lady Gucci” Patrizia Reggiani, who was killed by her ex-husband and fashion heiress, may inherit $23 million.

in Rome – Patrizia Reggiani – better known as “Lady Gucci,” the lead singer of ex-husband Maurizio Gucci’s murder orchestra – could soon be handed a large inheritance despite her murder conviction, following a court ruling that would give Reggiani control over her late mother’s $20 million (just shy of $2.3 million)

Reggiani served 18 years in prison for the attempted murder in 1995 of her ex-husband, who was the heir to the fortune of the Gucci fashion house. He was sentenced in 1998 to 29 years in prison, but was released early in 2016.

On Monday, a Milan court annulled the will of Reggiani’s mother, Silvana Barbieri, saying something went wrong and made the document invalid.

The disputed will had left all the family’s assets to an organization called the Fernando and Silvana Reggiani Foundation, which was founded, led and managed by former family lawyer Maurizio Enrico Carlo Giani. But the court in Milan found that evidence presented during the trial undermined the validity of the document.

According to Italian media reports, Barbieri made his will from his hospital bed in 2018 at the age of 90, with the help of a notary and his lawyer, Giani.

Barbieri’s housekeeper was present during the meeting at the hospital and recorded the incident over the phone. That recording has become the main evidence in the case, as the judges identified a conflict between what was recorded on the audio and the content of the unauthorized will, which contributed to the decision to invalidate the last will.

Giani was investigated separately in a criminal case for allegedly exerting undue influence over the contents of the will, but was acquitted in 2024.

The housekeeper testified during recent proceedings that Barbieri himself instructed her to record the meeting and save the recordings, in case of “problems” later.

The case has now been referred to the Court of Appeal of Milan. If the decision is upheld, Reggiani – now 77 and living in Milan – will be reinstated as the main heir to his family’s fortune. The property’s net worth of around 20 million euros includes holdings of homes and high-yield rental properties in Milan.

Despite hiring a hit man to kill her ex-husband, Reggiani still receives an estimated $1.5 million a year in alimony from her estate. An Italian appeals court ruled that she is entitled to the payment because the divorce agreement was signed in 1993 – two years before Gucci’s murder – and therefore remains binding.

The couple’s two daughters, Alessandra and Allegra, have been arguing that it is not acceptable for their mother to receive maintenance, but the courts have been upholding the appeals court’s decision.

The couple married in 1972 and became the scene of an international jet-set, with homes in New York and Milan and a mega-yacht to take them on holiday. Their divorce was finalized in 1994.

A year later, as Gucci entered his office building, a well-dressed gunman shot him three times and killed him.

In November 1998, after a five-month trial, Patrizia and her four brothers were found guilty of premeditated murder.

Director Ridley Scott brought the drama to the big screen in 2021 in his movie “House of Gucci,” starring Adam Driver as Maurizio Gucci and Lady Gaga as Patrizia Reggiani.
