Santiago Espinal Chooses Free Center

Santiago Espinal cleared waivers and elected free agency, according to MLB.com’s transaction log. The Dodgers designated the veteran player for assignment on Tuesday Tommy Edman he came back from injury.
Espinal has been eliminated twice this season. The first one got there Kike Hernández he is back on the injured list. Hernández soon went down with an injury, so the Dodgers re-signed Espinal as soon as he cleared waivers. The roster balance is tight once Edman returns, as it may require the reliever to accept a minor league deal and report to Triple-A Oklahoma City.
A glove first baseman, Espinal impressed the Dodgers in an unscheduled invitation to Spring Training. He hit .268 in 36 games this year but only walked once and recorded four extra-base hits. Espinal had several offensive major league seasons with the Blue Jays from 2021-22. He is .247/.296/.328 with over 1000 trips to the plate over the past four seasons.
