Today’s NYT Connections puzzle is a real challenge. That purple section requires you to find related words hidden between four other words, and the only way I could solve the puzzle was to find the other three color groups first. Read on for today’s Connection clues and answers.

Players registered in the Times Games section can now checkout by tracking their progress, including the number of puzzles completed, win ratio, total score times and their winning streak.

Quick tips for communication
#1: Say the cue words out loud, pausing before and after each one. That helps you hear the words in context. Connections editors like to group words together that are used in similar phrases, such as _____ Up.
#2: Don’t go to an obvious party. These editors are brilliant. At one time, they contributed SPONGE, BOB, SQUARE and PANTS to the same puzzle. None of those words were in the same category. If you like, press the “swipe” button to give yourself a different view of the words.
#3: Break down any compound words and look for similarities. “Rushmore” was once in a puzzle where the connection was that each word started with the name of a rock band.
