Samsung Galaxy vs. Google Pixel: My takeafter testing a bunch of phones in both brands
The Android phone market isn’t as competitive as it was a few years ago, but there are plenty of options to choose from. You can find a slab phone, a book-style folding, a flip phone, and phones equipped with portable keyboards. Sure, iPhones dominate with 69% of the market share in the US, but Android is still much richer and gives you more hardware flexibility.

If you’re in the market for a new Android phone, you have two major brands to consider: Samsung and Google. One has a broad ecosystem of products, while the other leads with AI features. Both have their strong points, depending on your application. Here is what type of product you should choose that will suit you best.
Buy a Samsung Galaxy phone if you…
1. You already have a Samsung product
Samsung has a bigger ecosystem of products compared to Google. It makes laptops, TVs, tablets, and household appliances such as air conditioners, refrigerators, and microwaves. While the latter is not beneficial for any cross-device functionality, having a Samsung TV, laptop, and phone can make your life easier with deeply integrated features of the ecosystem.

For example, you can control your TV using the Samsung SmartThings app on your smartphone. You don’t need to look for the remote control every time you want to change the volume or change other TV settings. Likewise, you get features like the Apple ecosystem where the Samsung Galaxy Buds work best when paired with a Galaxy smartphone, and App Continuity lets you keep browsing the same website across your phone and tablet.
2. You want better hardware
Samsung offers more powerful and aggressive hardware in its flagship phones than Google. For example, the Galaxy S26 Ultra remains the only phone with a built-in Privacy Display feature, while the 200MP camera can be pushed to produce better photos than you’d find on a Pixel smartphone.

Both Samsung and Google phones have intuitive software, but One UI remains my favorite Android UI for its customization and ease of use. Like, I installed Good Lock and its modules to make my Galaxy S25 Ultra easier to use last year, and the transparent widgets on my home screen are always unbeatable.
3. You need aggressive carrier promotion
Samsung Galaxy phones usually get carrier upgrades than Google Pixel phones. That is why the price increase in the Galaxy S26 series has been accompanied by a strong promotion of the carrier.

According to a Counterpoint Research report, “US carriers responded to price increases caused by the recall with aggressive increases” and “three.” [Galaxy S26] models and carriers have seen a significant increase in premium promotions.” This results in a tempting offering of affordable options in the latest consumer products.
Buy a Google Phone if you…
1. You want less bloatware
If you want a pure Android user experience, Google is the way to go. Its phones use Pixel UI, which doesn’t include third-party bloatware like Samsung Galaxy phones. You don’t need to uninstall a bunch of Microsoft apps and social media as soon as you set up your phone.

Google’s Pixel UI also has its unique advantages. You get Pixel Drop updates that bring new features to older devices throughout their lifecycle. Samsung Galaxy phones are not far behind in terms of software updates and support, but Pixel phones are often one of the first phones to get new Android features, such as AirDrop support.
2. You just love the Pixel’s smart AI features
AI is the last thing I talk about when I review phones because many AI features are forgotten. However, Google has shipped some useful additions over the past year.

There’s Magic Cue that displays contextual information in personal conversations and Call Screen, which filters out spam calls. The UI also displays content information when it detects who is calling. For example, I was doing customer support with an airline, and the Pixel 10 Pro displayed my reservation information on the call screen, so I didn’t have to go through files or Gmail to retrieve it.
These are some quality-of-life features that Samsung has tried to replicate in its latest phones, but it needs more polishing.
3. You want a unique hardware design
Both Samsung and Google phones have their own design language, but the Pixel devices are arguably the better looking of the two. Their visor look has changed and is now paired with some of the best colors on a smartphone. This combination makes Pixel phones more attractive than Galaxy devices.

Even if you’re on a budget, the Pixel 10a will offer you more exciting color options than the Galaxy A57 5G.
Author’s choice
It’s a tough decision because the Google Pixel Buds Pro 2 are my favorite travel earbuds, and the Pixel 10 Pro Fold is the only foldable that actually holds dust. However, I prefer One UI over Google’s Pixel UI for its personalization options, and Privacy Display remains one of my favorite smartphone features.
I will choose Samsung because of its simple phone designs in the current generation and better cameras.
