Starting the ninth all-time Calder Cup Playoff series between the intramural rivals, Wilkes-Barre/Scranton held on for a 4-2 victory over Hershey in Game 1 of the teams’ Atlantic Division semifinals at Mohegan Arena on Thursday night.
The Penguins will take a 1-0 lead in the first of five in Game 2 on Saturday night.

The bears are back in the game as Ilya Protas got 10:48 in the second, too Henrik Rybinski reduced the deficit to 3-2 just 1:09 into the third.
Avery Hayes scored an empty-netter with 54.1 seconds left to win as the Penguins snapped a seven-game losing streak after the 2022 season. It was Hayes’ eighth goal in eight games against Hershey this season.
Former Bears quarterback Alexander Alexeyev registered two assists for Wilkes-Barre/Scranton and Sergei Murashov made 31 saves in his first career Calder Cup Playoff victory.
Clay Stevenson (2-1) turned away 27 of Hershey’s 30 shots.
