Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani is in “critical but stable condition” at a Florida hospital Sunday night, his spokesman said.

Ted Goodman, his spokesman, did not provide details about what led to the hospitalization of Giuliani, 81, who was a former lawyer for President Donald Trump.

“Mayor Giuliani is a fighter who has faced every challenge in his life with unwavering strength, and he is fighting with that level of strength as we speak,” Goodman said in a statement.

“We ask that you join us in praying for the Mayor of America, Rudy Giuliani,” he said.

The Republican served as an advocate for Trump’s 2020 campaign, where he promoted false claims that Trump had actually won that election over former President Joe Biden.

Giuliani hosted his online show, “America’s Mayor Live,” Friday night from Palm Beach, Florida, the Associated Press reported.

During the show, he coughed and sounded louder than usual, AP noted.

“My voice is a little under the weather, so I won’t be able to speak as much as I usually do, but I will approach the microphone,” Giuliani said during the program.

Trump on Sunday night praised Giuliani while commenting on his position, and repeated his calls to deny the election in a Truth Social letter.

Trump called Giuliani a “True Hero, and the Best Mayor in the History of New York City, EVER,” in his post.

“What a tragedy that he was treated so badly by Radical Left Lunatics, Democrats ALL – AND HE WAS SURE ABOUT IT ALL!”

“They rigged the election, made up hundreds of stories, did anything to destroy our nation, and now, look at Rudy. It’s so sad!” Trump wrote.

Giuliani’s son, Andrew Giuliani, is the executive director of the presidential team for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which the United States will host along with Canada and Mexico.

A Brooklyn native who served as the state’s attorney general in the 1980s, Giuliani was mayor of New York from 1994 to 2001. His tenure was marked by a drop in the city’s crime rate and the September 11, 2001, terrorist attack on the World Trade Center.

Giuliani has been widely praised for leading the city’s response to the attacks, setting the stage for an unsuccessful bid for the Republican presidential nomination in 2008.

He was later indicted in Georgia and Arizona for trying to reverse Trump’s loss in the 2020 election. He denied wrongdoing.

The case in Fulton County, Georgia, in which defendants include Trump and other associates, was dropped in November by the prosecutor appointed to replace Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis, who was barred from handling the case.

In Arizona, the state’s attorney general is appealing a decision requiring a criminal case to be sent back to a grand jury because prosecutors failed to produce a key legal document.

Giuliani was found guilty in federal court in Washington, DC, of defaming two Georgia election workers over his claims that they committed vote fraud at the 2020 polling station. He was ordered to pay the women, mother and daughter, nearly $150 million in the case.

Giuliani was disbarred as a lawyer in New York in July 2024 after a federal appeals court found that he “abused his prominent position as a lawyer for … Trump and his campaign” to spread false – and sometimes “false” – claims about the 2020 election in several courts.

He was fired from Washington, DC, two months later.
