Federal judge apologizes to WHCA Dinner shooting suspect for prison conditions
A federal judge is causing controversy by apologizing to Cole Allen, who is accused of trying to kill President Trump at the White House Correspondents’ Association Dinner. Attorney Mark Smith called the judge’s comments “reckless,” insisting prison conditions must be harsh. Smith notes video evidence of Allen’s malicious intent and questions the comparison to the Jan. 6 defendants.

A Los Angeles medical center is responding after a nurse posted on social media expressing disappointment that President Donald Trump was not killed in a shooting during the White House Correspondents’ Association Dinner.
Matthew Shaffer, identified as a nurse on the Cedars-Sinai Medical Center website in Los Angeles, reportedly responded to a social media post about the incident at the April 25 White House Correspondents’ Association Dinner where user Jason Cosler wrote, “Did you miss anything? Who hires these people,” and Shaffer responded, “Stand up.”
A spokesperson for Cedars-Sinai told Fox News Digital in a statement that, “Posts on social media by individual employees do not reflect the views or positions of Cedars-Sinai.”

Shaffer’s LinkedIn page color as working as a full-time nurse at Cedars-Sinai Medical Group since March.
The suspected shooter, Cole Tomas Allen, was arrested on April 25 after authorities said he was in custody they opened fire on the Washington Hilton The hotel during the dinner, which Trump attended for the first time as president.
Fox News Digital reported that Allen, who faces up to life in prison, wanted to implicate Trump administration officials in his botched attack, according to law enforcement sources.

According to Allen’s LinkedIn, he graduated from Cal State University, Dominguez Hills in May 2025 with a master’s degree in computer science.
He is facing three federal chargesincluding attempting to assassinate the President of the United States, transporting a firearm across state lines and discharging a firearm during a crime of violence.

The post to which Shaffer responded drew criticism online, with host Doug Wagner writing, “@CedarsSinai So, are you okay with your RN cheering for the President’s assassination? What if an apparent Trump supporter is at your hospital? Think he might kill that person. Down with that?”
