Hitting and pitching is important to Qnity — and CEOs on Trump’s China trip

Every weekday, the CNBC Investing Club with Jim Cramer releases the Homestretch – an afternoon update that can work, during the last hour of trading on Wall Street. Markets are moving to new records again. Technology trading stocks continue to grow, with Lumentum , Coherent , Corning , Western Digital , Micron , Seagate , Qualcomm , and Qnity Electronics all up 5% or more. Energy stocks traded higher alongside oil after President Donald Trump said the Iran freeze was “on life support” after an “unbelievably weak” proposal to end the war. Consumer-related stocks were concentrated, with many names in travel and leisure, retail, and clothing, including TJX Companies and Nike, down a few percent. Investors are likely feeling worried about the potential impact of rising energy prices. With the Consumer Price Index expected to show another big month-over-month increase on Tuesday, we’re starting to hear more talk from the White House about efforts to improve affordability. Trump told CBS that he supports suspending the 18.4-cent-per-gallon gasoline tax until prices drop, a move that would require congressional approval. The administration also plans to lower the price of beef purchases for a limited time, according to the Wall Street Journal. We’re getting more clarity on which CEOs and business leaders will accompany Trump on his trip to China. The list includes executives from Boeing , Apple , Tesla , Meta Platforms , BlackRock , Goldman Sachs , GE Aerospace , Cargill, Illumina , Visa , Micron , Coherent , Blackstone , Citigroup , and Mastercard , CNBC reports. Not on the list is Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang, who told Mad Money last week that “it would be an honor to represent the United States” if invited. As we wrote last week, the numbers are high for Boeing. A successful meeting is essential to secure an order that may amount to up to 500 aircraft. Analysts at Bank of America, who have a buy rating on the stock, said in a Monday paper that the company could be a clear winner in the meeting, but cautioned that the order “is not a slam dunk yet.” We believe Boeing’s time is coming, but the market still has some doubts. Hims & Hers Health and AST SpaceMobile reported after the closing bell on Monday. Before the opening bell on Tuesday, Qnity Electronics, which calls itself the leading pure-play provider of integrated solutions for the semiconductor value chain, will report. The company is at the center of AI chip buildout by supplying materials to semiconductor fabs and providing advanced packaging, advanced communications, and thermal management solutions for chips. There may be weakness in the consumer electronics segment of the business, but the company’s smartphone exposure is primarily in premium devices, which is expected to be stronger. With shares up nearly 90% year to date, we’ll need to see some beating and lifting to continue the rally. Other companies that reported on Tuesday included ON Holding, Venture Global, and Under Armor. As mentioned, the CPI report for April will likely show a large jump from March’s values, driven by higher energy costs. Economists expect the index to increase 0.59% from March and 3.7% over the past 12 months, according to FactSet. Excluding food and energy, the index is expected to have risen by 2.7% over the past 12 months. (See here for a full list of stocks from Jim Cramer’s Charitable Trust.)
