Athletics To Encourage Gage Jump For Debut

The MLB pipeline ranked Jump at No. 3 in the Athletics program. Eric Longenhagen’s FanGraphs has him behind only shortstop Leo De Vries. Jump has an average ERA of 4.00s in Triple-A this season, but has delivered a career-high 33.1% strikeout rate. He allowed just two earned runs over 9 2/3 innings in MLB Spring Training this year.
The A’s took the jump with the 73rd overall pick in the 2024 draft from LSU. He quickly provided workhorse-level production in his first taste of pro ball, throwing 112 2/3 innings in 2025. Skip posted a 3.28 ERA and a sub-3.00 FIP between High-A and Double-A. He didn’t crack MLB Pipeline’s top prospects last year, but he sits at No. 41 in this season’s rankings.
The Jump featured a unique pitch mix with Las Vegas. He leaned on four-seamers more than half the time, but also threw more sliders (18.3%) and curveballs (13.1%). Jump also used both sweeper and transition more than 5% of the time. Control has been an issue, as Jump’s 11.8% walk rate is a significant increase from his 2025 mark.
Jump activity was limited to start the year. He had not completed five innings with the Aviators in eight appearances. Jump went seven solid innings in his last start, striking out nine with no walks. He might get into a rotation that doesn’t have much stability outside of it Luis Severino again Jeffrey Springs. Manager Mark Kotsay hinted at a possible IL stint Aaron Civale after Monday’s game, which would open up a trade space.
