Giants Outright Logan Porter – MLB Trade Rumors

The Giants announced the catcher Friday Logan Porter he cleared waivers and was assigned directly to Triple-A Sacramento. He had been assigned a job earlier in the week. San Francisco also remembered well Carson Seymour from Triple-A and a righty pick Wilkin Ramos in his place.

Porter appeared in one game with the Giants this season and was hitless in his one trip to the plate. He tallied nine plate appearances in five games with San Francisco last season and also saw major league action with the 2024 Royals. Porter has played in 17 games in the majors and posted a .184/.326/.289 slash in 47 trips to the batter’s box.

Although he didn’t provide offense in his minor league sample, the 30-year-old Porter has a great record in the minors. He is a .244/.359/.389 hitter over five Triple-A seasons. He doesn’t hit for much power, but Porter has struck out 14.4% of his 1237 plate appearances.

Defensively, Porter is sound. He’s caught a respectable 22% of runners attempting to steal against him in the minors, including an outstanding 33% (17 of 51) since 2025. Baseball Prospectus gives him more fielding skills but slightly less than average blocking ability. It’s a solid defensive skill set all around, and when paired with his penchant for drawing free passes, Porter’s defensive ability makes him a good option to stick around as a third baseman on the depth chart or as a big league backup.

Porter has been seen before, so he has the option to opt for free agency now that he has been seen again. He briefly opted for free agency last summer after the Giants went undrafted, though he quickly received a new major league contract.
