Shlain shines Stars in game 1 | TheAHL.com

Artem Shlain broke a scoreless game 1:53 into the third period to give the Texas Stars a 2-0 win over Chicago in Tuesday night’s Central Division semifinal opener.

Game 2 of the best-of-five series is Thursday at Cedar Park.

Shlaine, whose 19 regular-season goals this year ranked eighth among all AHL rookies, took the backhand pass. Matthew Seminoff and scored a power play goal to give the Stars the lead.

Texas held Chicago to just five shots on goal in the final period, and Shlaine scored her second goal of the game on an empty net with 19.1 seconds left.

Rémi Poirier made 16 saves in his third career Calder Cup Playoff shutout. Cameron Hughes he assisted on both of the Stars’ goals, moving him to 12th on the AHL’s all-time list with 52 assists last season.

Cayden Primeau stopped 25 of 26 shots for the Wolves.
