Jose Ramirez Will Be Placed In IL With Hamate Fracture

Guardian is expected to field the superstar third baseman Jose Ramirez on the injured list with a fractured left hamate bone, according to multiple reports, including Zack Meisel of The Athletic. Ramirez was pulled in the fifth inning of Saturday’s game against the Tigers after striking out in his third at-bat.
It’s brutal news for a Cleveland club that just returned to first place with a win over Detroit, and a loss against the White Sox. Ramirez is having a bit of a rough season by his lofty standards, with a .754 OPS heading into Saturday, but he remains a fixture in the middle of the bullpen. This gray has played all 72 games this season. Ramirez has it too was a threat on the roads, with an AL-leading 24 steals.
Ramirez wasn’t the only key piece to go on Saturday. Outsiders Chase DeLauter again Angel Martinez he also left in the morning. DeLauter crashed into the wall in the top of the first inning. He first stayed in the show, singing alone Tarik Skubal under the frame, but was removed because of the small runner. He is dealing with bruised ribs (h/t Tim Stebbins of MLB.com). Martinez misplayed the ball on his first leg. He was taken out defensively to start the second inning.
Already down two outfielders, Ramirez’s departure put the Rangers in a tricky position. Daniel Schneemannwho replaced DeLauter, had to move to third base. Kyle Manzardo he took Ramirez out of the lineup and went to first base. That pushed Rhys Hoskins to the left field. It was the first time in the outfield since 2018. Cleveland then gave up a DH to deliver David Fry field in the ninth inning. Nearby Kade Smith he was forced into the batting lineup. Smith closed the door to save, so the manager Stephen Vogt there was no need to navigate to that area of the list.
Ramirez may be facing a long-term absence. The diagnosis of a broken hamate bone can vary, but it will likely cost the seven-time All-Star at least a month. There was a high-profile hamate bone fracture this spring. Mets shortstop Francisco Lindor and a quarterback for the Diamondbacks Corbin Carroll both rebounded during the regular season. Orioles player Jackson HolidayThe return did not go well. Holliday faced a number of setbacks during his reassignment and did not return to the big league team until mid-May. Ramirez himself missed nearly a month with a back injury in 2019.
Schneemann is a good candidate to fill in at third place with Ramirez out. He usually handles the hot corner when Ramirez serves as the DH. The infielders on the 40-man roster include CJ Kayfus, Juan Britoagain Angel Genao. Brito was with the team earlier this season and has experience at third base, although he has never played there as a major leaguer. He made second base earlier Travis Bazzana he was promoted.
