A Georgia man has been arrested after a bicyclist caught on camera hitting and running on the road

An old man has come under fire for being shot after being arrested in connection with a hit-and-run incident involving cyclists on camera.

Jerry Wayne Ross, 72, is facing charges for allegedly hitting and running with the driver of his Honda Pilot, all of which were captured on video, on April 23 in Cherokee County, Ga., according to Fox 5 Atlanta.

The North Georgia Cycling Association was on its Thursday night trip when a driver was accused of driving the team in an incident that allegedly happened on the road.

Another passenger, identified as Richard Collins, the group’s leader, told Fox 5 Atlanta that a black SUV caught the group’s tail and honked its horn.

“It’s just an exaggeration,” he told the outlet. “Don’t let go of the horn.”

The incident was caught on camera when the driver of a black Honda Pilot hit the cyclists with his car after honking at them.

A group of cyclists who fell following the collision, collided with the side of the SUV and landed on the pavement.

“I turned left to see, at that moment, that car was on my left leg,” Collins said.

Collins said he suffered road rash on his shoulder, elbow and knee and was treated by first responders who were called to the scene. He later visited an orthopedist who diagnosed a fracture in his lower spine.

Cherokee County Sheriff’s officials arrested Ross at a nearby neighbor’s home. Ross faces six charges, including hit and run, reckless driving, and failure to keep a safe distance from a bicycle.

“I hope this experience will raise awareness of the rules of the road, for cyclists, and how drivers should allow three meters when passing safely,” said Collins.

In a statement, the North Georgia Cycling Association thanked law enforcement and emergency officials for their “quick and professional response.”

Most importantly, we are thankful that those involved got home safely to their loved ones.”
