Vice President JD Vance sat down with “The View” editors Tuesday to promote his new book, “Communion: Finding My Way Back to Faith,” while addressing comments he described as “bones” that made headlines nearly five years ago.
While speaking at the panel, Vance fielded questions about his controversial 2021 comments, in which he said “we are effectively run in this country by the Democrats, by our corporate oligarchs, by a bunch of childless cat women.”
Host Joy Behar also brought up the viral comment, saying, “Mr. Vice President, you made a mistake by calling Democrats ‘childless girls.’
“Oh man, my big-headed comment,” Vance replied.

Behar then asked Vance what he thought about when he made the comment nearly five years ago, adding that he also referred to it as a “bare-bones” decision in his new book.
“Here’s what I can say about that,” Vance said. “Did those comments shed some light and start a conversation, or did they just shut people down?”
“If I make a comment that turns people off instead of trying to appreciate the point I’m making, that’s a mistake. And that’s on me to do better.”
Vance went on to add that in recent years, he believes the world has changed its views to no longer prioritize the traditional, nuclear family.
“I think in a subtle, sometimes very deep way, I think our country has become very anti-family and anti-child,” she said.

Earlier in the exchange, Vance noted that Behar actually seemed to compliment her during the commercial break, revealing, “So Joy said when we were off the air that ‘I’m fine,’ which I think is the best endorsement I’ll ever get out of Joy Behar.”
“Well, for the Republic, for the Republic,” Behar joked.
Vance laughed, “Well, thank you, thank you for that. You’re put in the gym here on ‘The View,'” which drew sneers from the other liberal hosts.

Speaking to Fox News Digital ahead of his appearance on “The View,” Vance said he hopes his conversation with the hosts will be a positive exchange that allows for different perspectives.
“It might be a hope for me, but I think a lot of people — not everyone, but a lot of people — even if I don’t agree with them, you should try to talk to them,” Vance said.
“We will go and try to have a good conversation. I hope they will meet me in the middle. I have a little doubt, but we will see,” he added.
