President Donald Trump held his final meeting with Chinese President Xi, suggesting he was largely successful in one of the main focuses of the summit after the two leaders held a bilateral tea at the Zhongnanhai complex.

“This has been an amazing visit,” Trump told reporters. “I think a lot of good has come of it, and we’ve made some really good trade deals. It’s good for both countries.”

The announcement comes after a year-long tariff dispute between the US and China, in which Trump has argued that aggressive duties are needed to enforce fairer trade terms while Beijing has repeatedly pushed back. Although it is not clear what agreements were reached, it was shared that China agreed to order 200 Boeing Jets.

US Ambassador to China David Perdue, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, and US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer were present at the meeting.

Top American business leaders accompanied Trump to Beijing and met with Premier Li Qiang on Thursday to discuss US-China economic and trade cooperation.

“China is willing to work with the United States to realize the important consensus reached by the two heads of state, to strive for good results, to achieve mutual success and promote mutual prosperity, and to better benefit the people of both countries and the world,” reads a statement released to the media about the meeting by the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The ministry emphasized that the two countries should “come together” and “protect economic and trade relations.”

The White House and the Chinese Embassy in Washington did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital’s requests for comment on the matter.

In an interview Thursday with Sean Hannity of Fox News, Trump said China is interested in investing “hundreds of billions of dollars” and American business leaders visited Beijing.

“Those entrepreneurs are there to make deals and bring back jobs,” Trump said.

A large part of Trump’s “America First” agenda focuses on leveling the global trade playing field by holding other countries accountable for trade deficits. One of his first steps after returning to office was to introduce “Independence Day” tariffs in April 2025, which were designed to serve as leverage in trade negotiations while also bringing in new revenue.

Tariffs have been central to Trump’s China strategy since his first term, when he imposed duties on Chinese imports and Beijing retaliated with its own tariffs. The war remains one of the stress points in the relationship between the world’s two largest economies.

Trump’s first visit in 2017 generated more than $250 billion in announced trade deals and pledges of cooperation, but it did not prevent trade relations from deteriorating in 2018.
