The Atlantic says Trump doesn’t get the same years of scrutiny that Biden did

The Atlantic said Monday that President Donald Trump did not receive “the same vetting” as former President Joe Biden about his age and ability.
“When Donald Trump took the oath of office last January, he was the oldest president ever to begin a term, serving 78 years and 220 days,” Jonathan Lemire began his article titled “A Different Kind of Fading President.” “He replaced the man who held this title, Joe Biden, who had dropped out of the race after it was seen across the country that he was aging very, very quickly.”
He continued, “But as Trump himself gets older—he walks more slowly, changes into comfortable shoes, and seems to nod off during meetings—his age doesn’t get the same attention.”
CREDIBILITY PROBLEM: MEDIA FOCUSED ON TRUMP’S LIFE, RIGHT IN THE FIRST TIME BEFORE BIDEN TURNED

Lemire acknowledged that the Biden administration “criticized” reporters who would cover the former president’s age and suggested that the initial “coverage” of Biden’s age was due to the White House’s backlash.
“Biden’s team pushed back against the worrisome complaints about his age and his ability to handle the responsibilities of the presidency, and, for a while, the matter was largely postponed. The Democrats were worried and bit their tongues. The president had enough good days to allow his aides to try to dismiss the matter as another way of talking, while encouraging everything – and encouraging the opinion of the news. way,” he wrote.
Lemire continued, “However, Biden’s mistakes were exposed by his lackluster, confusing performance in the general election debate that was followed by a wave of criticism and finger-pointing that continues between Democrats and journalists to this day.”
He pointed out that because of Trump’s more frequent social media posts, ongoing health scandals and reduced domestic travel, there should be more questions about the president’s health as he approaches his 80th birthday.
CREDIBILITY PROBLEM: MEDIA ACCEPT WHITE HOUSE’S ‘BIG-TYPE’ VIEWS LEADING TO UNDUE RAISING

In a statement with Fox News Digital, a White House spokesman defended Trump’s toughness and called out the media for covering up Biden’s “significant mental and physical decline.”
“President Trump’s intensity, unparalleled power, and historic reach are in stark contrast to what we saw during the last administration when Democrats and the legacy media deliberately hid Joe Biden’s profound mental and physical deterioration from the American people,” said White House spokesman Davis Ingle.
Fox News Digital has also reached out to Lemire for comment.
Several commentators at X criticized the piece, saying members of the media, including Lemire, ignored Biden’s health and fitness leading up to his 2024 debate with Trump.

“It’s left out of the Left’s shameless ‘Trump’s shtick that Trump gives the media access ALWAYS. The Left wants to punish him for it. They’ve never been punished for covering up for Biden. Well, unless you count Trump who won again,” Newsbusters senior editor Tim Graham wrote.
Outkick writer Ian Miller commented, “What scrutiny has Biden received for his age? Every time people show videos of his obvious, rapid mental decline, the media calls it ‘cheap lies’ or conspiracy theories. It wasn’t until this debate that they knew he was going to lose the election and decided to force him out.”
“Jonathan Lemire was sitting there where Joe Scarborough was looking straight into the camera and saying ‘I’m about to tell you the truth, and F you if you can’t handle the truth. This is the best version of Biden ever.’ That was in March of 2024. Joe Biden would drop out of the race 3 months later. This won’t work,” wrote conservative commentator Stephen Miller.
“What color do you think the sky is in their world?” broadcaster Derek Hunter commented.

Lemire previously criticized the New York Post’s June 2024 coverage of viral videos featuring Biden appearing to wander aimlessly around the G-7 Summit during a segment on MS NOW’s “Morning Joe.” During his comments, he addressed then-White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre’s description of the videos as “cheap lies.”
“That’s the problem here that the Biden campaign but we who have the media will have to deal with it from now until November because the speed of these fakes is only increasing,” said Lemire.
