Indiana woman, 75, dies after fight with fast food manager

An Indiana woman has died after authorities say she got into an argument with a fast food restaurant manager over an order dispute.
Anita Grayson, 75, visited a Tim Hortons in Fort Wayne on Wednesday, May 13 “to address an issue with an order she received during operation,” the Fort Wayne Police Department (FWPD) said. press release.
Once inside the restaurant, police said Grayson began “screaming” at a 17-year-old female employee, prompting the 20-year-old manager to intervene and repeatedly ask Grayson to leave.
According to police, Grayson was then “seen walking around the shift towards the young employee,” causing him to “put his hands on Grayson in an attempt to prevent him from reaching” the child.

The argument quickly turned physical as Grayson “forcefully pushed the shift lead back” and then “struck the shift lead on the left side of the nose with his right hand,” police said.
He then tried to hit Grayson, which the police said grabbed the 20-year-old boy’s face, took off his glasses and grabbed him by the hair while dragging him to the ground.
Grayson then rolled over the shift lead, with video footage showing him trying to swing Grayson’s arm while he was caught by his hair.

Two employees jumped in to break up the altercation, when Grayson “pulled a section of hair” from the shift lead’s head.
Grayson then sat down at a nearby table and started talking on the phone before removing the shift lead’s hair and putting it in her purse, according to police.

About 10 minutes later, police say Grayson was lying on the floor and unresponsive when the shift lead came to give him a cup of water.

First aid arrived at the scene and tried to perform life-saving measures before taking Grayson to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Footage released by the department shows the scuffle between Grayson and the shift leader, but does not include the moment the 75-year-old man lies on the floor.
In a report released Tuesday, the Allen County Coroner’s Office he told WANE-TV that an autopsy found “no significant injuries” to Grayson’s body.

The cause and manner of death are pending, and a completed investigative file has been turned over to local prosecutors, according to the FWPD.
In an initial press release, police acknowledged “the public’s concern about this case.”

“The Fort Wayne Police Department is deeply saddened by the loss of life,” authorities said. “If the circumstances surrounding the death are not immediately clear, those circumstances must be thoroughly and professionally investigated.”

Speaking on the WPTATawanda Grayson, the woman’s daughter, criticized the actions of the workers before her mother’s death.

“My mother was wronged in a terrible way,” said Tawanda Grayson. “You shouldn’t walk into a coffee shop to get a coffee and a donut and walk out without buying one. That’s satanic.”
A GoFundMe set up by Grayson’s loved ones to cover funeral expenses described the 75-year-old as “a God-fearing woman with a loving spirit who devoted her life to her faith, her children, and her family.”

“She was the best mother anyone could ask for—hardworking, compassionate, selfless, and always willing to help others before herself,” the collector continued. “She lovingly raised four children and was the heart of our entire family. Anita’s strength, wisdom, and unconditional love touched everyone who knew her.”
