Anne Hathaway revealed that she was blind for 10 years due to cataracts

Anne Hathaway battled a secret illness for ten years before finally undergoing surgery.

During an appearance on the New York Times podcast “Popcast,” “Devil Wears Prada 2” The actress, 43, revealed she was “legally blind” in one eye throughout her 30s due to early-onset cataracts.

“This is probably too much information,” he began. “I was blind for 10 years.”

“It affected my vision so much that I was blind in my left eye and I was injured during the surgery,” he continued. “And I didn’t realize how bad it was until I saw the full spectrum.”

“I’ve been down since then,” Hathaway added. “I didn’t realize it was actually taxing my nervous system.”

According to the Mayo Clinic, a cataract is a clouding of the lens of the eye.

“For people with sighted eyes, seeing through cloudy lenses is often like looking through a snowy or foggy window. Blurred vision caused by cataracts can make it difficult to read, drive a car at night or see a friend’s face.”

Hathaway said her current vision is “miraculous.”

“I appreciate the idea because I feel it literally every day, I wake up and see how I’m doing, it’s a miracle,” continued the actor. “I’m actually like, ‘Oh, two generations ago, that wouldn’t have been an option for someone like me.’ So, I actually feel very connected to that kind of wonder. “

Recently, Hathaway dismissed plastic surgery rumors circulating online despite “preferring” to “not comment on anything” and “not draw attention” to herself.

“We’re in a time where people feel more confident in taking what they think is true, and sometimes what they think is true and sometimes it’s not,” Hathaway said.

“The speculation has become so great that you feel the need to reveal your truth,” he continued. “And I’ll probably always ask myself, ‘Should I send that or not? Should I continue to do something that makes me happy and makes me feel more confident on the red carpet?’ But I felt that the conversation was starting to distract me.”
