Cheryl Hines explains the immediate release from WHCD and RFK Jr. after the shooting

Cheryl Hines describes the terrifying moment she and her husband, Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., were rushed to the White House Correspondents’ Dinner after gunshots were heard.

“Okay so I just got back from the White House Correspondents’ Dinner. That was a crazy time,” Hines said, via his Instagram Stories.

“So we were there, and we heard a gunshot, everybody went under the tables, nobody knew what was going on, and Bobby’s security detail surrounded us, took us, he had to lift me over the chairs, because I was in heels, and a gown,” he added. “They took us through all the back roads, we got into the car and left.”

Soon after, Hines gave another update on social media.

“Thank you to everyone who reached out to ask if we’re safe, and we are. I’m in my pajamas right now watching the news like you, but everyone is always safe.”

At this event, chaos broke out on Saturday night when the gunman was reported to be Cole Allen he stormed the security checkpoint opened fire.

President Donald Trump was rushed to the ballroom at the Washington Hilton Hotel. Video from inside the event showed attendees hiding under tables as panic spread across the room.

The moment carried extra weight for attendees whose lives had already been shaped by political violence, including Trump, Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., House Majority Leader Steve Scalise and TPUSA CEO Erika Kirk.

“The people who make the biggest impact, they’re not like that [shooters] follow,” Trump said Saturday evening at a press conference at the White House. “Their fans don’t do much because they like it that way.”

Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., a nephew of President John F. Kennedy, was quickly removed from the room Saturday, an HHS official told Fox News Digital. His family’s history is closely linked to two terrible murders.

Trump praised law enforcement during a press conference at the White House late Saturday, saying the situation was “done incredibly well by the Secret Service and law enforcement.”

“[The suspect] there was still a long way to go. That was the first line of defense. Then they found him. And actually, you know, they did amazing,” he continued.

The suspected gunman, identified as Cole Allen, 31, of California, has been arrested.
