Here’s What Apple’s Siri Overhaul For iOS 27 Could Look Like

After almost two years of delays and a $250 million payment along the way, Apple is preparing to relaunch the new Siri at WWDC 2026. Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman published a preview of the update with images that give a glimpse of how Apple has redesigned the iPhone interface to put Gemini’s AI agent front and center. “The company often tests many designs of features internally, and the final version that will be presented to the public in June could be different,” Gurman warned, before saying that Apple could release a new Siri in September.
As you can see in the pictures Bloomberg shared, Siri will now reside within the iPhone’s dynamic island. As before, you will be able to wake up the assistant by saying “Siri” or by holding down the power button of your phone. However, Apple will also allow users to swipe down from the top center of the iPhone to reveal a new “Search or Ask” interface that includes features from the existing search interface found in iOS 26. Here, you’ll see the old standby Siri Suggestions – a list of eight suggested apps – as well as new features. Gurman suggests that Apple will allow people to use the interface to launch apps, start text messages, add calendar appointments, search notes and more. “The results are displayed on a rich text card from Dynamic Island,” he explains. “Users can swipe down to open a chatbot-style conversation within the Siri app.” Gurman reports that Apple is also considering giving users the opportunity to access other AI services, including ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini through this new interface.
Due to Siri’s new prominence, users will have to scroll down from the top left of their phone to access the Notification Center. Apple will also offer a dedicated Siri app designed to compete with the likes of ChatGPT and Claude. The software will allow users to chat with Siri via text and voice, with support for images and document uploading included. And like other chatbots, you can browse your chat history to continue previous conversations.
Unsurprisingly, Apple also plans to integrate Siri more deeply into the camera and photos apps. A new dedicated mode designed to replace the company’s existing Visual Intelligence feature will allow people to snap a picture and enter it into Google’s distorted image search. Users can turn to a third-party AI agent to analyze images. In the photo application, Apple will reportedly provide new tools “Reframe” and “Simplify” which, as their names suggest, will allow you to change the perspective of the image or use AI to generate visual objects beyond the frame of the image.
Underlying all these new features is the intelligent Siri that can search the web, and draw on the screen and the user’s personal information to complete tasks. “In the interface designed by Apple, you can request your availability for appointments before scheduling certain events and overlapping events,” Gurman said. Earlier this year, Apple confirmed reports that it was planning to use Google’s Gemini models to power a new version of Siri. Following the company’s now infamous WWDC 2024 presentation, Information reported that the Siri demo the company showed at the conference was an elaborate concept video.
