Mets To Place Christian Scott On The Injured List

The Mets will pitch right-handed Christian Scott on the injured list, reports Will Samson of The Athletic. The exact diagnosis of the injury is not publicly known but Sammon reports that the issue is believed to be minor. Scott’s last stop was on June 11th so the Mets should be able to push back his IL placement for a maximum of three days until June 12th.

Even if it ultimately proves to be true that this is a minor issue, it is not a worthy development for the Mets. They have been facing exchange challenges all year. Kodai Senga he has been on the injured list since late April due to inflammation of the lumbar spine. Post fracture of the fibula Clay Holmes in IL last month. Taylor Megill is likely to miss the entire season after undergoing Tommy John surgery late last year.

Along with those injuries, there were also challenges. David Peterson again Sean Manaea each has done starting and relief work but Peterson has a 5.75 earned run average while Manaea is at 4.78. Before hitting the IL, Senga had a 9.00 ERA in his five starts.

Scott, on the other hand, has been doing a great job. He made nine starts for the Mets this year with a 3.10 ERA. He received little help from an 82.7% strand rate but struck out 26.4% of opponents. His 10.7% walk rate is high but not by much.

The Mets are trying to salvage their season before it gets out of hand. They are currently 32-39, which puts them 5.5 games back of the Wild Card spot. Ideally, they could move up in ratings before the August 3 trade deadline, which would help the front office allow for some acquisition moves. That should be a big challenge for Scott being in the IL for the next little while.

More to come.
