New Horror From Supermassive, Battlestar Galactica Roguelite And Other New Indie Games Worth Checking Out

Supermassive Games (Until dawn, Quarry) is back for the second season of its series Dark Pictures. The first entry this season Directive 8020. As you might expect, this is a survival horror game with a heavy emphasis on narrative decisions, with your choices ultimately determining which characters survive. In this case, Supermassive leans on sci-fi for an inspired story Something.
After a colony ship crashes on what seemed like a safe haven for a dying Earth, the crew is hunted by an unknown creature that can transform into other living things, including humans. There are five main characters, including pilot Brianna Young, portrayed by Lashana Lynch (There is no Time to Die). You can play alone or pass the controller between several friends in co-op mode, each with one or two characters. Online multiplayer will be added later.
One thing that does Directive 8020 unique to other Supermassive projects is a new feature called Turning Points. This allows you to go back to previous decisions and choose a different option. The idea here is to make it easier for players to experience all the effects in the branch narrative.
Directive 8020 is out now on Steam, PS5 (where you can check out the free trial) and Xbox Series X/S. It will cost you $50.
Battlestar Galactica: Shattered Hopes a set strategy game — surprise! – the universe of the popular sci-fi series Battlestar Galactica. It is said to build upon developer Alt Shift’s previous game, MaLanga was cryinga narrative-driven, tactical roguelite that itself took inspiration from BSG.
You will manage a fleet of ships trying to escape the destruction of the twelve Colonies and return to the ship that bears the name of the fence. You will have to take care of conflicts within your ships, deal with bad players in your ranks, manage resources and make improvements and repairs.
However, the Cylons are hot on your trail and you’ll need to prepare yourself as well as possible for your next encounter with the killer robots. Battles are more about survival and sustaining as little damage as possible than achieving victory in an all-out fight.
My colleague Igor Bonifacic tried to build the game early last year and enjoyed it. The reviews I’ve seen are generally positive. You can try Battlestar Galactica: Shattered Hopes by downloading it from GOG or Steam (a demo is available at the end). It would normally cost $25, but there is a 20 percent discount until May 18.
Caribou Trail it looks very interesting. It’s a first-person infantry sim set in the trenches of World War I, where you take on the role of a young soldier from Newfoundland. Said to be inspired by the true stories of soldiers who served in the Gallipoli campaign, the play tells a story of friendship and life, with “mythical and psychological tensions” mixed in.
Caribou Trail, from Unfaithful Narrators and Gambit Digital, is out now on Steam and the Epic Games Store (regularly $13, 10 percent off on Steam until May 28). The developers planned to release the PS5 version at the same time, but they could not solve a critical problem with that build in time. So, they delayed the PS5 version until July 7.
I really enjoyed my time Minosa roguelite in which you build a maze that takes out attackers with traps. Mazebound – from Absam Studios – a completely different flavor of procedurally generated maze game. A first-person survival horror title where you’ll collect items, craft weapons, hunt for sustenance and try to fend off the terrifying creatures that await you.
Thankfully, you don’t have to go it alone (it’s dangerous to do so, after all). You can bring friends with you in multiplayer. I will probably have to do just that.
Mazebound is available on Steam. It would normally cost $10, though it’s 20 percent off until May 20.
