Are you using Firefox on your Android device? If so, you’ll want to get the latest update to get cool and useful new features. In a Tuesday blog post, the folks at Mozilla revealed three new and improved features for the Android version of their browser and outlined what to expect in future releases.
Tab groups
First in the list are groups of tabs. Available in the desktop flavor of Firefox last year, tab groups are now coming to the mobile version in version 152. With this feature, you can organize your related pages and tabs into specific groups to help reduce clutter. After giving a name and color to your group, simply close it to save space and reopen it when you need to access all the pages inside. Mozilla promises that this will reach iOS users later this year.

“Tab Groups add a layer of colorful organization to your browser, making it easier to keep related tabs together,” Firefox said in a 2025 blog post. “You can create groups for topics, projects or ongoing activities – like the news sites you read every day, ideas for new woodworking hobbies or research for an upcoming trip to Thailand.”
Simple settings
Next is the redesign of the Settings screen. With this fix, Mozilla proposes a simple structure, which allows you to easily find a specific setting and find options that you might not have known. The preference will not change, but hopefully it will now be better organized.

“Over time, some settings pages became crowded, related preferences were spread across different categories, and it wasn’t always clear where to look for a particular option,” Mozilla said in another blog post. “The new settings include a clean layout, modern visual design, improved labels and descriptions, and updated navigation, including related categories.”
View blocked trackers
Firefox automatically blocks annoying ads and other types of trackers to keep your browsing activity and preferences private. But now you will be able to see it in action. The new Blocked Tracking widget will show you how many and what types of trackers the browser has set up. This type of protection is part of Firefox’s advanced tracking protection

“Enhanced Tracking Protection in Firefox automatically protects your privacy as you browse. It prevents trackers that follow you online to collect information about your browsing habits and interests without breaking site functionality,” Mozilla explains in a support article. “It also includes protection against malicious scripts, like malware that drains your battery.”
Update the browser
To update Firefox on your Android device, open the Google Play Store app, tap your profile picture or icon, and select Manage apps and device. You will then be prompted to update all your installed applications, including Firefox.
More in store
But wait, there are plenty of other features that are needed in future versions of Firefox. Most are aimed at desktop and iOS versions, but a couple will hit Android.
- A free built-in VPN for Firefox on iOS and Android. Naturally, you will be able to open a VPN anywhere, anytime. But it should prove useful especially if you connect your phone to public Wi-Fi or other unsecured networks and want to keep your browsing activity private.
- A built-in PDF editor is being developed. In a future version of Firefox for desktop, you’ll be able to split, merge, and reorder PDF files right in Firefox.
- Customizable keyboard shortcuts will allow you to create and change your own keyboard shortcuts using the Firefox desktop browser. You can design daily activities and specific accessibility features.
- Currently available as an extension, Multi-Account Containers will be integrated directly into Firefox for desktop. With this option, you can separate different browser functions according to where and how you use them. For example, you might want to create one container for personal tasks and one for work tasks.
- Designed for Firefox on Android, the upcoming Power Saver Mode will help get rid of open tabs that are eating up system resources. Firefox will then reduce their power-hungry impact so that your phone’s battery life is not affected in the same way.
- Here is an AI-powered feature planned for a future version of the iOS version. With Quick Answers, you’ll be able to ask Firefox a question by voice and get an AI-generated answer right in the browser. And since AI is fallible, you can double-check the sources used to generate the answer to double-check accuracy.
- Finally, Mozilla continues to improve the Smart Window option for the desktop browser. Here, you can tell the built-in AI to get general information or answer specific questions. But here, your conversations remain private, stored only on your device. To take the current version of Smart Window for a spin, go to the Smart Windows beta page.
