The PGA Tour schedule is changing in 2027. Here’s what you need to know

The PGA Tour, in the middle of its 2026 schedule, now has an idea of its other slates for 2027 – and the first half of the year will have a different look.
Several tournament sites have recently posted dates for next year, although the Tour has yet to issue an official statement. Josh Carpenter of Journal of Sports Business reported Tuesday that players were sent a memo explaining the schedule changes.
To break down the schedule, let’s use a question and answer format.
The PGA Tour season isn’t going to start in Hawaii, is it?
That’s right. The Tour announced last month that it would no longer play its two Hawaii events, the Sentry Championship and the Sony Open, both earlier this year.
When will the season start?
Based on tournament announcements, the season will begin on Thursday, Jan. 21 at the American Express event in La Quinta, Calif. This year’s event was won by Scottie Scheffler.
So what tournaments will be played?
After American Express, an unnamed tournament will be played next week at Torrey Pines, according to a news release. Golfweek’s Adam Schupak. Farmers Insurance stopped sponsoring the event after this year’s tournament.
Here are the following, based on tournament announcements:
– Feb. 4-7: AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am
– February 11-14: WM Phoenix Open
– February 18-21: Genesis Invitational
– February 25-28: Cognizant Classic
– March 4-7: Cadillac Championship
– March 11-14: Players Championship
– March 18-21: Arnold Palmer Invitational
– March 25-28: Texas Children’s Houston Open
– April 1-4: Valero Texas Open
– April 8-11: Kings
– April 15-18: RBC Heritage
– April 22-25: Zurich Classic
– April 29-May 2: CJ Cup Byron Nelson
– May 6-9: Valspar Championship
– May 13-16: Truist Championship and One Flight Myrtle Beach Classic
– May 20-23: The PGA Championship
What is changing?
So, here are the changes from this year, excluding the events in Hawaii:
– The Pebble Beach and WM Phoenix Open events will change dates, possibly for the Pebble Beach tournament to avoid the Super Bowl. (On a more unrelated note, next year’s Super Bowl will be followed by a federal holiday.)
– The Cadillac Championship runs from May to early March, taking over the day of the Arnold Palmer Invitational. The Cadillac will now be ahead of the Players. Why move? It may have something to do with the fact that this year’s Cadillac faced off against a close F1 race. And March in Miami tends to make for better golf weather.
– Arnold Palmer travels in mid-March, taking a day at the Valspar Championship. The API will now track Players – and will be up against the start of the NCAA men’s and women’s basketball tournaments.
– The CJ Cup Byron Nelson will be played three weeks earlier, taking the date of the Cadillac Championship.
– The Valspar Championship will run from March to May, taking over from the Truist Championship.
– The Truist Championship and the PGA Championship will each be played one week later.
– This year, starting with the Masters and ending with the PGA, six tournaments are played, including two majors and three signature events. Next year, starting with the Masters and ending with the PGA, seven events will be played – and one minor signature.
– The Puerto Rico Open, this year played opposite Arnold Palmer, has not yet announced its date.

What about beyond the PGA?
At this point, little is official, but here’s what we know:
– The Charles Schwab Challenge, played this week, will likely follow the PGA. Interestingly, if the Tour had followed this year’s schedule, the Tour would have played three consecutive weeks in Texas, since the PGA is in the Lone Star State, at PGA Frisco.
– The US Open, which will be played again at Pebble Beach, is scheduled for June 17-20. Given that and Charles Schwab’s projections, the Memorial will likely be played June 3-6, so it’s not before the Open.
– The Open Championship will be played on July 15-18 in St. Andrews.
– Many events have also made recent announcements. The Canadian Open has said it will play its 2027 event at TPC Toronto; Travel companies, John Deere and 3M have extended sponsorship of their competitions through 2030; the Genesis Scottish Open said it will play its tournament at the Renaissance Club until 2030; and ISCO and Grupo Puntacana will be the title sponsors of their events until 2027.
– The 2027 BMW Championship will be played at Liberty National in New Jersey.
What about 2028?
Many possible changes.
Carpenter of Journal of Sports Business reported last week that Tour CEO Brian Rolapp, in early May, showed players a “two-tier” plan. The first tier will feature 16 Tour events, three playoff events and four majors, while the second tier will feature 20 tournaments.
When asked last week about the tier system, Brooks Koepka said it was news to him though.
“I don’t know anything about that,” he said. “I don’t know about that. I don’t know anything, except that something came up in the last week or so. I didn’t pay much attention to it. Yeah, I probably didn’t read enough to answer that one.”
When will there be more information?
About next month at Travelers. At the Players Championship in March, Rolapp said he will hold a press conference at the TPC River Highlands.
