This Oscar-nominated revenge thriller is one of the top 3 Peacock films to watch this weekend (May 8-10)

This weekend’s movie recommendations for Peacock are an unexpected mix, and that’s the point. Bugonia he will make fun of things you shouldn’t make fun of, Promising Lady it will make you angry at the things you know, too Gangster, cop, Devil it will make you root for someone who may not be right.
The three films are very different, but they all share one thing in common: none of them play by the rules, and that’s what makes each of these underrated movies worth your time.

Bugonia (2025)
- Type: dark comedy, sci-fi satire
- IMDB Ratings – 7.4/10
- Rotten Tomatoes (critics) – 87%
If you’ve ever gone down the conspiracy rabbit hole at 2 in the morning and thought, “What if there actually is something?” Bugonia the movie is yours. This uncompromising dark comedy follows Teddy, a paranoid beekeeper who firmly believes that Michelle Fuller, a biotech executive, is actually an alien from the Andromeda galaxy sent to destroy humanity. So naturally, he kidnaps her.
What follows is a claustrophobic, darkly funny battle of wills between Jesse Plemons in his unsatisfying dedication and Emma Stone in her cool, menacing presence. The film is a sharp satire of conspiracy cultures, corporate greed, and the seductive comfort of believing that someone else is responsible for the world’s destruction. I really like how the movie uses camera angles to keep you questioning who the real monster is in the room.
You can watch Bugonia in Peacock.
Gangster, Cop, Devil (2019)
- Type: sensational criminal act
- IMDB Ratings – 7/10
- Rotten Tomatoes (critics) – 97%
Sometimes the best thrillers are built on ridiculous premises, and this Korean crime film pulls it off with total swagger. After a serial killer makes the terrible decision to attack mob boss Jang Dong-su and leave him for dead on a rainy street, Jang teams up with a detective to hunt down the killer, each for very different reasons.
Ma Dong-seok, who you may know from him Train to Busanshe’s an absolute force of nature here, carrying scenes with her sheer physical presence and incredible stand-up comedy sequences. The film is fast, slick, and genuinely fun, with skirmishes choreographed well enough to feel brutal without being funny. I really like how the movie doesn’t try to make its heroes respectable. Both are morally dubious, and the film resonates with that.
You can watch Gangster, Cop, Devil to the Peacock.
Promising Young Woman (2020)
- Type: dark comedies, thrillers
- IMDB Ratings – 7.5/10
- Rotten Tomatoes (critics) – 90%
This feature lasts long after the credits roll. Carey Mulligan stars as Cassie, a 30-year-old medical school dropout who spends her nights in bars pretending to be drunk, waiting to see which “nice guys” show their true colors.
It sounds like a fun setup, but writer-director Emerald Fennell turns it into something much more layered, combining dark humor, romance, and simmering anger that quietly builds to a boil.
The film won the Academy Award for Best Screenplay, and it deserves all of that. I really like how Fennell uses pale colors and high quality pop music to make the unease really hit.
You can watch Promising Girl to the Peacock.
