An LGBTQ+ center that calls itself a “resource center [Brigham Young University] students and anyone else in need” recently held an event where a plaque depicting President Donald Trump’s head was offered for sale, and a piñata of Sen. Mike Lee, R-Utah, was available for children to hit.
“A painting of Donald Trump’s severed head was found being sold next to a Molotov cocktail at a Pride event in Provo hosted by the Cougar Pride Center, which describes itself as an ‘LGBTQ resource for BYU students,'” Kai Schwemmer, a BYU student and senior executive at the College Republicans of America, wrote on April 14 send to X.
In a subsequent post on X, Schwemmer said, “Also included: the Representation Piñata [sic] @BasedMikeLee. Stored less than 15 minutes from where Charlie Kirk was killed, items like the ones being sold here are a disturbing sign that nothing has changed since then, and that the tension and violence is only growing.”

KUTV outlet report“Outrage has grown online after photos and video of a Pride event in Provo showed a piñata resembling US Sen. Mike Lee being hit by children, a sculpture of President Donald Trump’s severed head on a plate, and decorative Molotov cocktails being sold.”
The decapitated head of Trump’s painting, along with Lee’s piñata, were seen at the April 11 “Pride in Progress” event, held at Provo Memorial Park, and organized by the Cougar Pride Center, an independent LGBTQ+ organization of Brigham Young University students and community members, KUTV reported.
BYU distanced itself from the event on April 15 send to Xwriting, “This is not a BYU party, not a BYU-sponsored event, and it did not take place on the BYU campus.”
The Cougar Pride Center told Fox News Digital, “We are not affiliated with this artist and we do not support violence of any kind.”

The artist of the severed head of the Trump painting, Sav Kubensis, whose work was with a title“Freedom and the Head of State,” he told KUTV that his art is protected under the First Amendment.
“While my art may not be politically correct, it is not a call to action or a threat – it is an expression of my First Amendment Rights,” Kubensis said. “It’s not like Mike Lee’s social media posts mocking the murder of a Minnesota attorney last year.”
Kubensis also told KUTV, “My work is very symbolic and may not appeal to everyone, but my LDS grandmother has nothing negative to say about it.”
Kubensis’ Instagram post about the painting, which also shows Trump’s eyes removed, reads, “Historically, gouging out a person’s eyes has served as a cruel form of political punishment or revenge. Used to cripple rulers and punish traitors, blinding was a common practice in the Middle Ages to prevent a man from leading armies.”
