Yankees Pick Brendan Beck – MLB Trade Rumors

The Yankees announced Thursday that they have selected the righty’s contract Brendan Beck from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. The right hand Yerry de los Santos optioned to Triple-A following last night’s game. New York already has three three-man roster spots. Their list now stands at 38.
Beck will be with the team this afternoon against the Rangers and could make his big league debut. Veteran is right Paul Blackburn expected to start for the Yanks after that Ryan Weathers he scratched because of illness. Beck, the Yankees’ starter and senior manager, could be a long relief option behind Blackburn, whose longest outing of the season was three innings. Weathers will return to the rotation next week, manager Aaron Boone told reporters last night (link via ESPN’s Jorge Castillo). Weathers himself told the beat team that he got sick shortly after his debut and ended up losing nine pounds in less than 48 hours (via SNY’s Chelsea Janes), so he will be brought back in a few days as he regains strength.
Beck is 27 years old – the younger brother of the Giants righty Tristan Beck – was a second-round pick by the Yankees out of Stanford back in 2021. He is a right-toss righty with plus command whose professional career has been marred by injuries. Beck required Tommy John surgery shortly after being drafted and then missed the 2024 campaign due to another elbow surgery.
Beck returned from that second elbow procedure in 2025 and delivered a torrid season between Double-A and Triple-A, pitching 131 1/3 innings with a 3.36 ERA, a 23.6% strikeout rate and a 6.9% walk rate. He’s had an uneven start to his 2026 season, posting a 5.11 ERA in 37 frames, but almost all of the damage he’s dealt so far has come from two bad outings in which he allowed seven and eight runs. He has held opponents to two or fewer earned runs in four of his seven starts this year and is coming off a strong seven-inning outing against the top-ranked Blue Jays, in which he held opponents to two runs on five hits and four walks.
The Beck brothers, whose mother was born in England and whose grandfather was born in Wales, played for Great Britain in this year’s World Baseball Classic. Brendan threw four shutout innings with four strikeouts. This is his first selection on the 40-man roster, so 2026 will be the first of three minor league years for him. The Yankees can control Beck for at least six years beyond the current campaign.
