At this point in his PGA Tour comeback, Brooks Koepka is still fighting to reach the PGA Tour’s biggest events. But if Thursday’s opening round of the CJ Cup Byron Nelson is a sign of things to come, he won’t be fighting much longer.

The five-time champion got off to a good start in Round 1 and never let up. By the end of the day, Koepka had recorded six birdies, an eagle and zero bogeys in 63.

That left him tied for second with Jesper Svensson. Taylor Moore is the only player above Koepka on the leaderboard as we head into Friday’s second round. Moore shot a 62 to take the lead by one.

Scottie Scheffler fired a five-under 66 to get into contention early.
