Google Launches Search Profiles For Creators With 100K Followers

Google introduced Search Profiles, giving creators a page to aggregate their content from different platforms.
Profiles display articles, videos, and social posts in one place. People can follow their favorite websites and creators to see more of their content on Google Discover.
What Search Profiles Include
Creators can customize their profile with an avatar, history, website link, and linked social and video accounts.
Rene Ritchie, a YouTube creator consultant, explained the feature in a video:
Ritchie added that creators can pin their latest work and add links to retail stores.
The profile also has a “Follow on Google” button, the Google blog notes:
“People can easily follow sources from their profile, so they’re more likely to see that content on Discover, which is on the home screen of the Google app.”
When Search Profiles Appear
In mobile, profiles appear in three areas. You can tap “View Search Profile” under the information panel in the search results. You can also tap the name of the publisher or creator above the Discover card, and each profile gets a direct URL that can be shared anywhere.
Eligibility requirements
Not everyone can create a profile at launch. Google’s help documentation lists the minimum number of followers you need in at least one place.
- YouTube: 100,000
- Instagram: 100,000
- X: 100,000
- TikTok: 300,000
Ritchie confirmed these limitations in his video:
“To be eligible, we must have a public account with at least 100,000 followers on one supported platform, Instagram, YouTube, or X. If we only have a public account on TikTok, we must have at least 300,000 followers.”
Creators must be at least 18 years old. Google allows a person 18 or older to create and manage a profile on behalf of a minor.
How to Set Up a Profile
If you meet the follower limits, you can start at profile.google.com/claim.
Profile handles are automatically set to match your most connected account. If that handle is already taken, Google offers the next most followed option.
After linking at least one eligible public account, click “Create Profile.”
Any changes to the profile name, social links, or history require Google’s approval. Suggested changes remain in “Pending” status until they are reviewed.
New content from linked platforms is usually live within 24 hours, according to Google’s help page.
Information Panel Communication
Looking for a search profile may also get you an information panel. A Google blog post said:
“Searching for a profile may trigger the creation of a profile panel of eligible publishers and creators. If you already have a profile panel, it will be enhanced with your updated avatar, recent content, and a direct profile link.”
That’s a new way for creators to get a panel of information without going through Google’s existing claim process.
Does Profile Affect Search Rank?
No. Google’s help docs say that creating a search profile doesn’t affect ranking.
Any tangible benefit is in Discover, not Search. If someone follows a publisher, they can see more of that publisher’s content in their Discover feed.
Broad Context
Google has been adding publisher-facing tools to Discover over the past year.
In September, Google introduced a Follow button for websites and creators in Discover. That update also brought posts from X, Instagram, and YouTube Shorts to Discover’s feed along with article content.
Google later expanded its Popular Sources feature to all languages in April. That feature allows people to choose which websites they want to see more often in Top Stories and Discover.
Google’s February update to Discover also changed which websites appeared in the feed. Google said the update prioritizes valuable local content and reduces sensational content.
Search profiles provide something creators didn’t have before. Now they get a Google-owned page tied to the Discover Follow button that they can customize.
Why This Matters
Those who qualify can now shape how they appear across Search and Discover on one page.
The Follow button is the most important feature of the entire update, in terms of visibility. If someone follows your profile, they are more likely to see your content on Discover.
Looking Forward
Search profiles start in the US only. Google said it plans to expand to more publishers and creators around the world and add capabilities.
