IN PLUS INFINITY TWICE Threatens to Renew 2D Platform in 2027

Metanet co-founders Mare Sheppard and Raigan Burns introduce themselves as two humble Canadians who just want to blow your mind by inventing platforms. This is what they are known for, as the creators of the genre-defining 2D N platform series, which started in 2004 and continued to burn during the indie boom of the 2010s. N, N+, N++ and even Ten++free update that Metanet dropped last October, they are known for providing high quality animations and very accurate instruments in small areas. Each installment is a pure playground with obstacles, enemies, projectiles and lots of vertical space, and the real N it was single player, the next iteration added couch and online co-op with great success.

After more than 20 years N live, Metanet is back with it N PLUS INFINITY TWICE. It’s a massively multiplayer parkour experience with the series’ signature stick figures and simple visuals, though there seem to be a few more drop shadows and gradient hues this time around. N PLUS INFINITY TWICE is due to hit PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and Switch 2 in 2027, complete with local and online co-op, single-player options and cross-play.

N PLUS INFINITY TWICE It has five game modes, including two new modes of play. You have the classic Trials and Co-op versions, polished for a modern sensibility, and an improved version of Racing, which sadly isn’t called Rocket Murder Time even though it includes the new bazooka feature on the rope. Metanet defines racing as a faster version of Fall guysand has players set traps and collect bullets as they rush to their rocket launcher from the exit.

Two new modes are One-up, which takes inspiration from it American Ninja Warriorand Team Tag, which is a two-on-two battle about collecting gold and avoiding capture. Tag Team is the “jewel in the crown”. N PLUS INFINITY TWICEand in it, teams take turns playing as Ninjas or Hunters. Ninjas try to stay alive and collect gold, while hunters try to catch Ninjas by touching them. Hunters can also turn into rockets, of course.

The soundtrack for the new game features around 60 international artists, all hand-picked by Burns, Sheppard and the Metanet team by trawling through Bandcamp in their free time. The song is heavily inspired by UK garage and infused with electronic music from the 2020s, including a flowing dream look and intense beats. You know, playing music.

N PLUS INFINITY TWICE it’s built on the same aesthetic and technical principles as other N games, with 256x anti-aliasing and sub-pixel motion tracking resulting in brilliant animations and incredibly functional avatars. In a press conference ahead of the game’s reveal at the 2026 Devs Summer Show, Burns excitedly explained that in most 2D run-and-jump games, the character’s hitbox is a square, but in N games, it’s a circle. This changes everything about how the avatar falls, leans on edges, grazes corners and flows through each surface, adding a touch of Bennett Foddy-like smoothness to the physics. The circle is very precise and lends the N series a unique feel among 2D platforms.

Burns and Sheppard took a roundabout approach after reading a description of 3D object collisions from a Bungie editor in the early 2000s, posted on a long-lost Usenet forum called Game Dev Algorithms. Developer Bungie described movement in Halo in terms of sliding a circular object through a triangular net, so Metanet’s creators translated that idea into 2D with a circle with line segment gaps. The result was Nand finally, N PLUS INFINITY TWICE.
