In the first quarter-final match of the day, Sinner faced Spaniard Jodar. The Italian saved all five break points he faced in the second set, highlighted by a crucial victory in the eighth game with a stylish backhand.
Soson then powered to a 6-2, 7-6(0) win over the #NextGenATP superstar. With the win, World No. 1 completed the set to reach all nine ATP Masters 1000 semi-finals. The offender will next face Arthur Fils.
Barcelona’s reigning champion Fils advanced to the last four in Madrid for the first time with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Miami finalist Jiri Lehecka.
The Frenchman produced many exciting moments on court throughout the 74-minute clash, including winning this entertaining rally early in the first set.
In doubles action, Manuel Guinard and Guido Andreozzi took out top singles stars Stefanos Tsitsipas and Luciano Darderi 5-7, 6-1, 11-9. On the way to victory, Guinard found himself in a bad situation in the second stage, when the Frenchman was beaten by one of Tsitsipas’s players.
