Openers: Yamamoto, Jordan, Mize

The Phillies outlasted the Brewers with a 9-8 win yesterday, giving Philadelphia a 38-32 record. The two clubs combined for 29 hits, and every member of the Phillies’ starting lineup reached base at least once, but Bryce Harper recording a hit. Today’s contest is billed to be a pitchers’ duel. Christopher Sánchezfirst runner-up for the NL Cy Young Award, takes Milwaukee’s Kyle Harrisonwho is in the midst of a breakout season with a 2.72 ERA in 12 starts.

1. Yamamoto’s complete game bid

Reports on Thursday indicated that Detroit will remove Mize from the injured list for today’s game, although an official move is still pending. Mize will return after missing two weeks due to right adductor inflammation. He also returned to IL from April 29 to May 16 with a right adductor strain. In nine starts in those IL seasons, Mize was at his best, posting a 2.27 ERA in 47 2/3 innings and sporting a 20.0% K-BB rate. His return, and the later return of Tarik Skubalwill be a big help in Detroit’s rotation as they look to climb out of fourth place in the AL Central.
