This travel bag allows me to add golf to every trip I take

Welcome to I-Tried It, GOLF.com’s series about golf gear – apparel, gear, equipment, etc. – which we just took out to throw away. We are here to offer our reliable, non-golf or near-golf items. So, scroll down to read about our favorite new (or new to us) golf products.

As a frequent traveler, the allure of Golf on the Road is always there. I wonder what the San Francisco munis are like? What courses can I get into in Austin? I have that open invitation to Philly — should I accept it?

And in 20 years, I chased it. I put clubs in every airport, every trip – you name it. But before long, my travel bag changed. I was embarrassed as the flight crew dragged and dropped it on the barrage carousel, a thin tarpaulin around my arms that sprayed in many places. I had gotten a free travel bag from an industry friend, and it hit one of life’s truths: you get what you pay for. This time, I had a cheap travel bag, and it made clubbing worse.

I had to hold its handle in a certain way so that the bag would roll straight. I had to sit on the linoleum floor, not on the streets, so that its wheels wouldn’t get stuck and drag. Road Golf wasn’t very appealing to my travel schedule. It was time for a change.

I waited until the last minute – visiting the PGA TOUR Superstore on the way to the airport – but I came to the right place: the Club Glove Club Traveler.

Club Glove Club Traveler

The Club Traveler is a standard size, lightweight golf travel case that will withstand the rigors of air travel. Formerly known as the “College” Traveler, this premium, collapsible and collapsible golf travel bag is equipped with a clubhead compartment, a shock-absorbing inner liner, and a shock-absorbing wheelbase to keep your clubs safe during travel. Get to your destination with confidence.

This is a rare sighting, but in my experience, the ideal golfers I see in search of larger loads always carry their weapons in this bag. The slim, compact nature of the Club Traveler makes it appear as if your poles are packed tightly in their own small sleeping bag. Its base is sturdy, providing protection, but it’s also sturdy enough to maintain shape as you weave and weave through other travelers on the ground transportation. It feels like an extension of my arm as I run from baggage claim to whatever driver is waiting for me.

The Club Traveler comes with an extended “Stiff Arm” to ensure your long clubs don’t feel unnecessary pressure, and its wheels glide smoothly, no matter where it is. In very simple terms, I no longer feel upset about how schleppy it will feel in the Golf on the Street. I’m back to adding golf to most of my trips, even if there’s no golf at the center of the trip. It may cost a pretty penny up front — $350-400 or more, tax included — but it’s a purchase that feels more efficient each time you use it.
