Wisconsin brewery mocks failed attempt to assassinate Trump in office

NEWNow you can listen to Fox News articles!

A Wisconsin brewery known for promising “free beer” when President Donald Trump dies is reconsidering by posting on Facebook that “we almost got #freebeerday.”

Minocqua Brewing Company is owned by Wisconsin Democrat Kirk Bangstad, a former state Legislature candidate who has repeatedly used the brewery’s name to attack Trump and Republicans. The company’s social media is lamenting Saturday night’s botched White House Correspondents’ Dinner.

“Well, we almost got #freebeerday,” the company’s post read, though Fox News could not immediately identify the poster’s tie to the owner. “Maybe a brother or sister in the Resistance needs to work on their craft or faked another kill to get a good news cycle. We’ll never know.”

“Regardless, we’re ready to pour free beer the day it happens,” the post concluded.

Bangstad was nominated for the Democratic nomination for the 34th Wisconsin State Assembly seat in 2020, according to Ballotpedia, but lost in the general election.

Minocqua Brewing sells politically themed merchandise, including shirts that say, “I wish it was free beer day,” and touts its ongoing brand that connects beer and activism with “progressive merchandising.”

Fox News Digital previously reported on the “free beer day” pledge. In January, Fox News highlighted Minocqua Brewing’s message offering “free beer, all day, the day he died,” and noted Bangstad’s comment that he would welcome people to celebrate Trump’s “imminent death” with one caveat: “no red hats allowed.”

Fox News also identified Bangstad as the founder of the Minocqua Brewing Company super PAC, which targets Trump and Republicans. Also, Bangstad once sued Trump for not voting in Wisconsin before the 2024 presidential election.

The new incident follows Saturday night’s panic at the WHCA dinner in Washington, where Trump and first lady Melania Trump were ejected after shots were fired outside the ballpark.

Fox News reached out Sunday to Bangstad, the brewery and the Wisconsin Democratic Party. In a January statement to Fox News, Bangstad welcomed the celebration of Trump’s “imminent death.”

Bangstad and Minocqua Brewing have drawn repeated scrutiny for their anti-Trump messaging. Wisconsin Public Radio reported that Bangstad was indicted last year in a harassment case related to a dispute with a local newspaper publisher, and a Wisconsin newspaper report said he later pleaded no contest to a misconduct charge and was found guilty earlier this month.

JB PRITZKER SLAMS POLITICAL VIOLENCE AFTER CHARLIE KIRK’S DEATH, SAYS TRUMP’S RHETORIC ‘TENDS TO GET OFF’

Trump-backed House Representative Michael Alfonso announced the implementation of Bangstad’s speech in the state.

“This bar is owned by a man named Kirk Bangstad, and he’s not just some crazy person,” Alfonso wrote on X. “Kirk is a friend of the current Democratic gubernatorial leader Francesca Hong. He previously recruited Rebecca Cooke, the Democratic Alliance who is currently running against Derrick Van Orden, and he himself was nominated by the Democratic Alliance against my father, Sean-Düsconsin’s 7th District – where I am running now.”

Wisconsin Republicans and the Republican National Committee called off the relationship with Bangstad.

“Wisconsin Democrats are so sick in the head that assassination attempts are funny to them,” RNC spokeswoman Delanie Bomar told Fox News Digital on Sunday morning.

“All Democrats in Wisconsin, including Rebecca Cooke, must immediately condemn this despicable behavior.”
