LeBron James Says When He’s Ready to Retire: “Hell Yes”

LeBron James isn’t done yet, but when the time comes, the Los Angeles Lakers star knows exactly what’s most important.
Despite reigning for 41 years and firmly leading the team in championship runs, retirement is no longer just a distant thought — it’s a conversation, and one that’s more focused on family than basketball.
“H*** yeah. My wife’s going to get a lot of f****** time because I’ve had to sacrifice not being with my wife a lot because I wanted to be the greatest player to ever play the game,” James told ESPN’s Dave McMenamin. “My daughter, I’m going to spend a lot of time with her because I spent the first 11 years of her life – or 12, whenever this s*** is over, 13 – without her. My youngest son is in college.”
“My family deserves all my time. And then, me. I deserve my time, too,” James added. “Because I’ve been dedicated to this game for so long that I’ll be happy as f*** when it’s all done to get the f*** out and give myself a favor.”
A rare moment of reflection from a player whose career has been defined by longevity, discipline, and the relentless pursuit of greatness. Although the court order is already untouched, James has made it clear that the resignation will be to buy back time, not to rush further.
However, for now, there is no immediate goodbye. With Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves expected to bolster the Lakers’ roster, another title push still seems strong.
And even if he leaves, basketball will not be far behind. With Bronny James already sharing the arena with him and Bryce coming to the ring, the next chapter may look different, but the game will still be a part of it.
