What’s New on HBO Max in May 2026: ‘Wuthering Heights,’ ‘On the Roam’ and more

HBO takes a lot of credit for the rise of celebrity TV. Shows like The Sopranos, The Wire, Sex and the City and Game of Thrones have been nomination television, and that tradition continues with new series including Industry, The House of the Beast, Euphoria and more. Its streaming service, HBO Maxit’s also home to tons of great movies, live sports and great documentaries.

May is a big month for sports HBO Max; you can catch the NHL playoffs, the Savannah Bananas and the French Open — all broadcast live throughout the month. The broadcaster will also be showing tons of movies in May, including romantic comedy Wuthering Heights. Fans of travel shows can catch On the Roam hosted by Jason Momoa, which is also back this month.

Here’s a new look at HBO Max in May.

HBO Max’s new Japanese samurai action drama Song of the Samurai is based on the popular manga series Chiruran: Shinsengumi Requiem. Set in Kyoto at the end of the Edo period, the show follows the lives of the Shinsengumi, the samurai warriors who defended Kyoto in the final years of Japan’s shogunate. Developed for the first time in Japan by Tokyo Broadcasting System and streaming platform U-NEXT, the new series will debut on HBO Max on May 9.

Actor Jason Momoa has many hobbies (like rock climbing), and his HBO travel series Max On The Roam allows him to find like-minded people to meet and share their stories. In the show, Momoa travels the world, often on his motorcycle, meeting other creative people, such as singer and filmmaker Julian Schnabel and Metallica guitarist Kirk Hammett, who inspire him. The six-episode season will premiere on May 14 with new episodes coming out every week until June 18.

In 2025, HBO released the true crime series Yogurt Shop Murders, a four-part show about the murders of four Texas teenagers in 1991. The series aired in the summer of 2025 and featured several theories about who might have committed the unsolved crime, leaving viewers with no real answers… until now.

After the launch of the first episodes of Yogurt Shop Murders, new DNA evidence was found, which helps the police solve this 34-year-old mystery, and everything will be revealed in a brand new episode of the show coming to HBO Max on May 22.

Wuthering Heights is one of the most enduring love stories, and the 2026 film version starring Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi has breathed new life into the story of Cathy and Heathcliff. While Emerald Fennell’s take on the Emily Bronté classic has its critics who don’t like the way the film is stylized, it can’t be denied that it captures the intense yearning for new love (and lust). After hitting theaters earlier this year, the film is now available on HBO Max starting May 1.

Greenland was a 2020 dystopian drama starring Gerard Butler and Morena Baccarin as husband and wife John and Allison Garrity, whose family survived a comet that attacked Earth and wiped out most civilizations by jumping into a bunker in Greenland. The film was a huge hit, and now in the 2026 sequel, Greenland 2: Migration, the Garritys’ safe haven has been destroyed, forcing them to flee to Europe in search of refuge. You can probably guess, as this is a Gerard Butler movie, that the journey will not be very easy or safe.
