How to Make Money on Fiverr: The Myth of $5 Jobs

How to Make Money on Fiverr: The Myth of $5 Jobs

To know how to make money on Fiverr you don’t have to be a genius in any profession.

That is its biggest advantage.

Although different from the conventional application-proposal system of other platforms for freelancers, it has been a good starting point for many freelancers who today live on Fiverr or who have decided to move to other platforms and create their independent business from it.

Fiverr has been one of the platforms that I have used to generate extra income by dedicating 1-2 hours a day.

The fun thing about Fiverr is that once the sales start flowing, nothing stops them.

If you get 5 little stars a couple of times, the same system starts promoting your gig (we’ll talk about what it is later) so that customers buy it and you (and Fiverr) make money.

( Update:  For reasons of profitability I have decided never to use freelance pages anymore.  Other than that, the content of this post has remained the same. Just be aware Please note that I no longer recommend these platforms.)

…But What Is Fiverr in the First Place?

Okay, I skipped a part.

In a nutshell, Fiverr is a platform for sharing services in digital media.

I buy and you deliver whatever can be delivered digitally (literally, whatever).

Creativity reigns supreme on this platform, and compared to platforms like Upwork and Freelancer, it’s less professional…

That less professional can be both good and bad.

Good: because you have a lower barrier to entry and you can easily start making money.

Bad: because it’s usually very difficult to find high-quality clients who take into account the value of your work (that is, most are looking for the cheapest, not necessarily the best).

And well… that makes it more attractive for beginners while the more advanced run it.

Is Fiverr Trustworthy?

Definitely!

Fiverr has been on the market for +7 years and a service is purchased every 5 seconds. (That is, in what you have read in this paragraph they have bought 2-3 services)

It is impossible that with more than 25 million completed services and more than 1 million daily visits to its website, someone dares to say that it is a scam.

Do I need to know English to sell on Fiverr?

Some time ago they enabled the platform in several languages, including Spanish.

However, to this day, it appears that they only have it available in English again.

Now, the fact that the platform is in English does not limit you to offering services in Spanish. There are thousands of gigs (we’ll explain what it is) in Spanish.

Even though (obviously) English is the predominant language, you can generate income even if you only know Spanish.

Of course, I’m lying to you if I tell you that knowing English will ridiculously increase your chances (it’s a limitation, without a doubt) but….

The advantage of Fiverr is that you do not have to be interviewed or speak on the phone with your clients on any occasion, as is the case with other platforms.

So if you understand English and have no problem saying “Hello” “Thank for your order” and “What else do you need” I consider that enough (since you can even translate the description of your service on the same platform if you need it).

How to Work on  Fiverr…What Should I Do?

Starting to sell on Fiverr is easy and you don’t need to go through a review process or pay to join.

As simple as registering on any page.

Once you are registered, you have the opportunity to create a gig.

A gig is a way of calling the service you offer, which is represented by a rectangle and is what appears to potential buyers in the search engine when they are looking for services.

You are responsible for creating your header…

Your image or video…

And his description…

A gig is a mechanism used to sell (or buy) services on the platform.

… But How Much Can I Earn On Fiverr?

This is something completely variable. I would like to give you a direct answer but it will vary from many things.

Some people make a decent income of $2,000-4,000 consistently within the platform, but people who have been around for a long time and are at the highest level on Fiverr.

The downside is that things speed up after you’ve got a few little stars, which means the first few weeks will be the hardest and then the orders will pour in without thinking (and that’s where you start to increase your price).

I experienced that situation.

To give you a realistic answer, I consider that with a good service, training and dedicating at least 1 hour a day. It is realistic to expect $100-$300 the first month using the various bonus gig options Fiverr has.

From there, the income multiplies each month more and more… and more.

Note: The Fiverr system itself will charge you 20% of the income you receive.

Say, if you charge $US5 for a service, you will receive $US4. If you collect $US10, you will receive $US8, and so on.

Debunking The Myth of $5 Jobs.

Before 2015, Fiverr was only known as the $5 jobs platform, but things have changed from 2015 to now.

Since it is also convenient for them that you charge more (of course, they charge more commissions) now they encourage you to constantly increase your rates.

They have even created campaigns for professionals in their area to have special recognition and get paid what they deserve.

Let it be $400 or $1,000 or +$2,000…

Of course, it is something for professionals.

But if your goal is to start on Fiverr as a beginner, that gives you hope that you can one day reach that level.

I give you a real example: me.

My first gig of formatting books on Fiverr started at only $5. (Something that takes me 30-60min and I only need knowledge of Word.)

Today (just 2 months later with only 12 orders) I have managed to increase the average transaction to $14.58 simply by adding more benefits to the service for extra money.

The last order I had was for +$US50 (although a little longer, something possible to do in less than 2 hours).

And in case you’re not convinced, my main “competitor” (the person with the most stars in terms of formatting books).

Despite “apparently” charging $10 for service…

…(which is a technique for customers to click) has a higher-priced package.

Their standard service is $240 and their premium service is $500. (And it is something that makes and delivers in 3-4 days)

Can you imagine that by learning to format a book properly (I only watched a couple of videos) you could have the equivalent of about $4,000 a month doing something relatively simple?

This is how making money on Fiverr can be profitable …many freelancers still see it as “cheap work.”

And although many clients are looking for cheap, others are looking for quality and over time it depends on you if you decide to increase your rates.

I consider it a valuable opportunity for beginners and even experts who can validate their knowledge with badges like Fiverr Pro to start their freelance career while working (since the time commitment is less) and succeed on this platform.

Conclusion: How to Make Money on Fiverr: The Myth of $5 Jobs

As you can see, when you know how to make money on Fiverr, it can be very lucrative.

If you don’t know how you’ll spend your life earning $5 without growing.

A few years ago, when everything was $US5, the truth is that I would have thought so.

But I think that even for beginners it is a good starting point…even for already experienced freelancers it is a good opportunity.

Besides… what’s the worst that can happen? If you create your first gig and it doesn’t pan out, there’s always another chance.

You lose nothing, dare to try.

As always, I want to hear what you heard about Fiverr, are you willing to try launching your freelance career on this platform? What else do they need to know? Let me know in the comments.
