How to add foreign contact numbers to WhatsApp

If you want to chat with friends who have phone numbers from other countries, this is the way to save them.

The mobile phone gave us the ability to not have to look for a phone booth, but the smartphone has been the real trigger for the greatest social change that humanity has experienced. The mobile has laid the foundations for the birth of WhatsApp, Twitter, and Instagram, the apps that have connected the world and broken down borders. Today it is rare who does not to have friends abroad, but did you know that to add their numbers to WhatsApp you have to take into account the code of each country?

How to add foreign phone numbers to WhatsApp?

Calling a phone outside of Spain is not as simple as it seems. We must take into account the so-called international telephone prefixes: When we make an international call, we must first dial the country code, followed by the regional code, and then dial the telephone number with which we want to contact.

All country codes start with 00, but sometimes these zeros are shown with (+) in front of the international prefix. For example, if we are going to enter a number from Austria, the country code, which is “0043 ” would be seen on the phone as “ +43″. In the case of calling from Spain, it is necessary to first dial 00, then the prefix of the country you want to call, and finally the telephone number. In the case of WhatsApp, to add a phone number from another country, you have to do this:

  1. Go to your phone‘s contact book.
  2. When you add the contact’s phone number, start by including the plus symbol (+).
  3. Enter the country code followed by the full phone number.

To make it clearer, here are a couple of examples:

  • If the contact is in the United States (country code “1”) and has the area code “408” and the phone number “555-1234”, you must enter +14085551234.
  • If the contact is in the UK (country code ” 44″ ) and the phone number is “07700 900555”, you should remove the “0” from the beginning and enter +447700900555.

According to WhatsApp, you must make sure to remove the 0 or special calling codes at the beginning of the number. If you want to add a local phone number (from your country) to your contact book, enter the number as if you were calling that contact by phone. Also:

  • All phone numbers from Argentina (country code “54” ) must have a “9” between the country code and the area code. The “15” prefix must be removed so that the final number has 13 digits in total: +54 9 xxx xxxx
  • Phone numbers from Mexico (country code ” 52 “) must include a “1” after “+52” even if they are from Nextel.

Then we leave you all the telephone prefixes of all the countries of the world, from Afghanistan to Zimbabwe. Patience, there are a few…
